- Listed as a World Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO since December 1983, the Convent of the Order of Christ and the Templars` Castle in Tomar form a unique monumental ensemble in their kind. The Convent of Christ displays its architectural ensemble art several testimonies: the Romanesque art, with the Templar’s; the Gothic and Manueline style, with the Discoveries; the Renaissance, during the Reform of the Order; the Mannerism, in its various aspects; and eventually the Baroque, in several architectural details. The Abadia de Alcobaça (Abbey of Alcobaça), inscribed in the World Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO, is one the most important European Cistercian Abbeys, considering its state of preservation and architecture, a Cister symbol. In the transept of the church lie two of the most beautiful examples of the 14th century sepulchral architecture: the tombs of King Peter and Dona Inês de Castro. The Monastery of St. Mary of Vitória (Batalha) was built by order of King John I, as a gratitude for the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians in the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.It is the great Gothic style Portuguese monument, where the Manueline style has also began, and one of the most remarkable monastic ensembles of the Europe of the late-Middle Ages. We finish our tour visiting the Jerónimos Monastery, who represents discovers (XV century) .
