What is the Slow Food Movement?

Slow Food is an international organization with members and support worldwide in about 160 different countries and growing! The Slow Food movement is committed to encouraging everyone to forget about fast food and savour good food which is such a pleasure in life when made fresh and simple. Not only tasting the food but keeping traditions alive with local communities learning how to plant and harvest thinking in the impact of the environment.

Starting from eno-gastronomy and moving to eco-gastronomy. Slow Food started out as an “enogastronomic” (food & wine) association created by the food activist Carlo Petrini in 1986. Aimed to defend good food and gastronomic pleasure at a slow-pace of life.  Then the idea grew into the Slow Food Movement.

Evolving from eco-gastronomy into neo-gastronomy. Slow Food has a strong belief in new gastronomy making gastronomy freedom of choice, education, and as a multidisciplinary approach to food that enables us to follow a healthy way of life, using resources available without waste.

All the way from local to global. Slow Food envisions a planet in which people can enjoy food that is healthy for them, good for local producers, and good for the earth. Millions of people today around the world are involved in the Slow Food Movement. With over 100,000 members, in countries like; Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
