Description

15TH C. RENAISSANCE PALAC

This palace, built on the site of a former Roman fortress in the middle of the 15th c., rises up in the historical centre of the capital of the province of Zamora and offers the traveller the opportunity to discover all the beauty of the natural, monumental and artistic surroundings of the lands of Zamora. The medieval aroma of the interior, which can be appreciated in armour, noble rugs and attractive four-poster beds, is combined with the Renaissance style of its courtyard, glazed wooden gallery and coats of arms. It has two conference rooms and a refreshing swimming pool in the well looked-after garden outside. Wooden floors and beams offer warmth to the decoration with a noble air. The restaurant menu offers excellent dishes from traditional recipes such as `bacalao a la tranca` (cod), `pulpo a la sanabresa` (octopus), `presas de ternera` (stuffed roast veal), and for dessert, `rebojo zamorano` (sweet cakes) and `natillas almendradas` (almond custard).

HOW TO GET THERE:

Zamora is on the right bank of the Duero, at the beginning of the western Castilian meseta. Its historical centre adds colour to the Plaza de Viriato, in which the Parador Condes de Alba de Aliste is located.

To reach the Parador, turn left when you reach the `Puente de Piedra` (Stone Bridge). If you are on the N-122 approach road to Zamora, you will come upon a park, which you should pass on the right-hand side.
