Located on the peninsula of O Morrazo, which separates Vigo Bay from Pontevedra Bay, this municipality is surrounded by natural beauty;  gorgeous beaches, river trails, hill viewpoint, and much more. An area with an important tradition in seafood production, with Sustainable Mussel Bed Farms (Bateas), where mussels and even other types of species are cultivated like; scallops, oysters, etc... A must-taste when you come to Moaña in the local restaurants!

Moaña is not only about beaches and seafood... it is a Land of Rivers, Prize-winning Goat Cheeses, and the Legendary "Chuleton de Moaña" T-Bone Steak!

Up in the hills, there are nature trails like the A Fraga river trail through the Galician forest, so lush, green, and fresh!

Taste with us the best Beef of Galicia (Ternera Galega), a delicacy here in A Fraga, Moaña. Important people have come to A Fraga dating as far back as 1857 to taste the famous Chuleton de Moaña. Alfonso XII came here to try it, and said it was the best steak he has ever had! He even brought some meat back with him to the land of Castile, Spain!

Visit a small humble family-run farm that makes some of the best Goat cheese in the world! The owner will show us around the farm and the process of making these artisan cheeses, and of course, we will have a tasting of their delicious prize-winning goat cheeses!

Day by day itinerary

DAY 1: WED.
VIGO - MOAÑA - A FRAGA - CANGAS DO MORRAZO - VIGO

  • A Nature Adventure & Food Tour of O Morrazo from One of the Biggest Ports in the World!
  • 09:00AM: Meeting at the port of Vigo, one of the biggest fishing ports in the world, from where you take a ferry boat to Moaña 
  • 09:30AM: We take the ferry boat departing from Vigo to Moaña and enjoy the amazing views of the bay as we cross and learn about the sustainable Mussel Farms (Bateas). The ferry ride only takes 20mins approx.
  •  Arrive at Port of Moaña we will walk to the store of A MeixoEira Goat Cheeses. They have won various World Cheese Awards for their exquisite goat cheese. Enjoy tasting the delicious cured and semi-cured goat cheeses paired with the fine wines of Os Areeiros from the wine region IXP Ribeiras de Morrazo made with different grape varieties such as Albariño, Caiño, Godello, Loureira, Treixadura, etc..., or Galician Craft Beer from Adega Menduiña.
  • Then we stroll along the promenade admiring the landscape, beaches such as the Xunqueira Beach one of the most popular beaches in Moaña.
  • Every Wednesday and Saturday they have the open-air Mercadillo with stalls local products. We will visit the Plaza de Abastos Market to see the fresh seafood and fish caught from Vigo Bay and learn about the different locally sourced products.
  • A great photo opportunity at the landmark O Fisgón Fisherman, built in honor of the sea and one of the most modern sculptures to see in Moaña. 
  • Then we will enjoy a memorable walk along one of the most magical nature walking trails in Moaña, the A Fraga Nature Trail, here we will have the opportunity to admire the breathtaking scenery full of greenery, old corn-flour mills, and streams.
  • During our walk through the dense beautiful forest, we will find a one-of-a-kind tree "Arbol de Los Deseos", the tree of wishes, which holds a special legend that you will discover on this food tour of Moaña. We will give it a hug and make a wish!
  • After that our next stop will be a visit to a humble artisan goat cheese farm, A Meixoiera S.Coop Galega, which we tasted their cheese early on during our food tour of Moaña.
  • Time for a very special lunch! We will arrive at the Taberna A De Lino, a Galician restaurant that offers the best quality Ternera Galega (Galician Beef) Steaks "El Chuleton de Moaña" in the town! The owner, Lino Fervenza is a Sommelier de Carne (Meat Sommelier) popularly known as " El Hombre que Pasea las Carnes" (The Man Who Walks the Meats), a concept of impregnating the steaks with the essence of A Fraga by taking the steaks for a walk in the forest before getting them on the grill! A unique gastronomic experience, slowing down to savor the best meats of Galicia.
  • 04:00PM: After our amazing lunch, we will end our great food and walking experience with a taxi transfer to the port of Cangas.
  • 04:15PM: Drop off at the Ferry Terminal of Cangas and final goodbye from your E&W Food Wanderer Guide.
  • 04:30PM: Take the ferry boat on your own to Vigo from Cangas which takes only20mins. (NOTE: You could stay longer and take a later boat if you want to walk around Cangas do Morrazo. The ferry departs every 30mins. until 10:00PM)
  • 04:50PM: Arrival back to Vigo Port. The Fraga River Valley Nature Trail and Food Tour offers a complete experience and destination overview enjoying the wonderful nature and getting to know the Galician Food Culture!

  • You must be an able walker since there will be portions of the tour with no transportation and we will be walking. Consider easy to moderate walking with some river trails. We will provide a make of elevation and distance. Total walking distance during the day will be about 8-9km(5-6mi) approx. (NOTE: The route can be adjusted to add more transportation if required at an extra cost.)
  • There is no dress code, but we recommend comfortable walking shoes.
  • Outside of the summer months, there are rainy days so a rain jacket would be recommended when not during summer. We will let you know the weather conditions a few days before the tour start date.
  • Please advise if you have any restrictions regarding types of food due to allergies, diet, or religious reasons. This must be included in the comments when you make the booking of this tour.

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations that are made in writing more than 48hrs before the start time will be refunded fully.  Cancellations 48hrs or less are 100% non-refundable.
  • In the case of unforeseen weather circumstances, we will alter the trail walk to explore more the village of Moaña.
  • If the weather is too bad to operate the tour or if the ferry boats are cancelled we will suggest another day to do the tour, or refund what has been paid.
