La Rioja is probably Spain’s most famous wine producing region with its capital in Logroño and wine trade centre in Haro where they’ve been making wine since the 1800’s. The main centre of production is in Haro which is an attractive town with nice church,San Tomás and Old Town including Plaza de la Paz. Logroño is also a famous stopping off point on the pilgrimage route, the Camino de Santiago (the French Way), being a great place to see its Cathedral,Santa María de la Redonda, visit the Museums of La Rioja and Cultural Centre or like the locals to go on the tapas circuit in Calle San Juan to try the local wines. Near Logroño Calahorra in Lower Rioja is worth visiting as it’s got many interesting monuments like it’s 12th century romanesque Cathedral, an attractive moorish Old Town and Municipal Museum. Santo Domingo de La Calzada is is one of La Rioja’s towns mostly closely associated with the Camino de Santiago famous for its medieval streets, fortifications,Cathedral and Old Pilgrim’s Hospital.
