Introduction

Santiago de Compostela Virtual Walking Tour for the Holy Year

Enjoy a virtual walking tour in Galicia visiting the monumental city of Santiago de Compostela, come for a walk with Sean & Tiernan along the old streets that the Pilgrims follow reaching the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago to admire the tomb of the apostle St James! Santiago de Compostela is a must-visit if you are thinking of traveling to the northwestern part of Spain, the Kingdom of Galicia.  A city with a unique vibe, full of history, legends and monuments, walk the old town streets and admire the exterior of the Cathedral visiting all the Plazas (Squares) like la Plaza de Obradoiro, Praza Quintana, etc...

Go through the Holy Door which grants to those who pass through it plenary indulgence and the absolution of all of their sins.  The Holy Door only opens on a Holy Year (Xacobeo) which is the case for this year 2021 (and 2022 has been extended due to Covid). The Holy Year takes place when St. James Day, 25th of July falls on a Sunday. Get to know the Galician tradition of the Way of St James and the different ways that lead to this marvelous city worth visiting.

Discover the Breathtaking Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

On this virtual walking tour, you will have the chance to discover the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela one of the most impressive cathedrals in the world with different mixtures of architecture (Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque style) that makes it unique. The final destination of all the pilgrims that follow the way of St James, which has brought many visitors to the apostle’s sacred tomb.

The massive Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela covers an area of around 10,000 square metres, capable of captivating with its powerful spirituality the faith of travellers, and with its beauty visitors from all over the world.

Learn with us the rituals that pilgrims do when arriving at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

We will end the virtual walking tour in a beautiful park (The Herradura Park) with a panoramic view of the old town and the towers of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. What better way to end a virtual walking visit to this monumental and spiritual city!

This was a splendid tour! Thanks Sean and Tiernan! I´m so happy I was finally able to take this tour. I really enjoyed learning more about the pilgrimage, the history and the location. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches I´ve seen. Glad I could enjoy this tour before taking a big break from it for the summer. Mil gracias!

I just popped in briefly today!

Fantastic tour! It was wonderful to walk around Santiago with Sean and Tiernan. Both are great guides! Thank you so much!

A fantastic tour in Santiago, showing us the area around the Cathedral and the Cathedral itself, as well as photos of the inside of the Cathedral (as filming inside the Cathedral was not allowed today) and of some reconstructions of what the Cathedral is believed to have once looked like. They also provided lots of information about St. James, the Camino de Santiago, and the area around the Cathedral, even spending 15 extra minutes with us to give us a viewpoint of the Cathedral towers from a nearby park and show the reconstructions again upon request. Highly recommended.

Wow !! what a great tour it was in Santiago de Compostela. You Sean, and your colleague have great research talents and your enthusiasm is contagious. I was impressed with the magnificent buildings and was absolutely mind blown by the splendor of the cathedral. Its beauty is certainly an inspiration to the pilgrims and its serenity a reward that brings them closer to God. I value your eye for aesthetic images and was able to take some fabulous snapshots. Thank very much for a wonderful experience. I will strongly recommend it to my friends and family. I´m simply in awe of the wonders of Santiago de Compostela.

Sean and his son do a great virtual tour. This time we went to Santiago de Compestela, Spain. I was there in 2019 after completing Camino from France and learned about things I missed on my original visit. They are full of great information and the tour is fun and enjoyable. Don´t miss the opportunity to visit Galicia, Spain with these 2!

What a special way to start the day but to visit Santiago de Compostela Cathedral and Old Quarter Walk for the first time. Sean is an excellent and enthusiastic guide and is assisted by his son, Tiernan, a great team! I look forward to more "walks" with these two fun guides.
(5 May 2021)

Sean and Tiernan showed a nice variety of sights on their tour. I enjoyed the black amber and silver in the shops, the statue on the park bench, and the various Celtic details nearly as much as the magnificent views both inside and outside of the cathedral. It felt good that they led us through the Holy Door and lit a candle for us near the altar.

I´d like to go on one of their food-oriented tours next.

Sean knows his material and is prepared. He is excited about his city and loves to show it to us. I was in Santiago de Compostela three years ago. I had a four-hour tour. Sean showed us as much today as I learned then, for we were there at the height of the tourist season. Today he had no lines and took us straight through the marvelous Cathedral of St. James. He pointed out everything that I considered important from my tour. He told us everything that is outstanding! I love that he showed his large pictures and told us when he was showing a building or scene that we should photography. I loved this tour!

Magnificent tour with a lot to take in, Sean and his son were a very accomplished team and covered the topic in a superb way.

A fantastic tour of this remarkable, exquisite city. Super guides, passionate about their city.

Spectacular tour! Was very special to be able to go inside the cathedral. Thanks Sean and son!

Sean and Tiernan conducted a wonderful tour today. They took great care making sure we could see everything and take our postcards. We even went inside the Cathedral. Amazing.

Very informative historical tour. It´s my second tour with Sean, he is very professional, excellent guide.
(5 May 2021)

Oh wow, what a beautiful tour! Thank you very much.
(5 May 2021)

I would give Sean and his son 10 out of 5 for going the extra mile on this tour. They were extremely interactive with the viewers and knowledgeable. And the bonus of Sean´s expertise in photography. I have some amazing postcards. Thank you Very Much. I will most certainly be looking out for more of Sean´s tours. Mary from Bonnie Scotland

Sean is warm and friendly with a wealth of knowledge. Looking forward to going on some of his other Galician tours.

Another great tour Sean and Tiernan. The light in the cathedral was excellent, we got some beautiful postcards and we learned a lot about this incredible edifice and the pilgrim’s last stage of El Camino. Great tour, highly recommended.
(19 April 2021)

Sean & Son...what a combination of styles, and a special treat. I never ever expected to do this walk let alone venture into the Cathedral. Wow. My grand daughter asked if this was in real life...yes those men are real and know so much about Santiago, made more special for us in Holy Year. Having watched The Way I thought that was all I would see or know, so thank you both.
(19 April 2021)

Such a great tour thank you. Both guides were excellent. It has long been a wish to visit this historic site. The history coverage and photo opportunities were brilliant
(18 April 2021)

I greatly enjoyed having the opportunity to make a virtual pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, one of the foremost of Europe´s pilgrimage destinations. It was particularly interesting to be able to take a brief look inside the Cathedral, prior to the start of one of the evening services. Thanks to Sean and Tiernan for sharing their time and local knowledge with those of us who took part in this evening´s tour.
(18 April 2021)

A very interesting trip with the added bonus of being allowed inside the church, what a privilege! Sean is an excellent guide, clear and concise with an eye for good postcard pictures. He was very ably assisted by his son. This was my first trip with Sean and I look forward to joining him again.
(18 April 2021)

Sean and Tiernan are so knowledgeable about history and food! Add to that the stunning scenery and sacred places, and it makes for a very rich and wonderful tour! I had taken this tour before, and learned new things this time. Thank you Sean and Tiernan, from Kate in Toronto, Canada

I have done several sightseeing trips to date, all are good and in present day circumstances the only safe way to see other places.
However, Sean´s tour was definitely up in the top two I have joined, all guides are good but some make it come to life... with Sean, I felt I was there in person, also, his knowledge was outstanding, I will definitely be joining another of his tours.
(31 March 2021)

He is brilliant - he certainly went the extra mile on this tour - fabulous, sensational. I have visited the city but this tour brought another dimension to it - many thanks.
(31 March 2021)

Very good tour with lots of interesting architecture and history included, especially the pilgrimages. I particularly appreciated Sean giving extra time to fulfill the tour after we were allowed into the cathedral.
(31 March 2021)

I´ve done the French, Old, Silver and Portugues Camino de Santiago and it´s a very special experience. It´s because walking with you by Santiago was very emotional. Thanks!
(31 March 2021)

I enjoyed Sean’s tour of Santiago and his knowledge about the pilgrims was most interesting. The highlight was entering the cathedral and virtually being inside was very inspiring. Thank you Sean.
(31 March 2021)

Great tour guide very personable as well as knowledgeable.
(31 March 2021)

Loved it! I appreciated the good quality/steady image, clear organized pacing of walk and info, historical background along the way, stopping to see some details like food and shops. Having your ‘guide in training‘ with you was fun
(31 March 2021)

I have had to cancel my Camino trip for 2 years running now due to the Pandemic. So I thought this trip to Santiago would be good. It was amazing, gave me so much information about the Camino and the significance of the scallop shell. Sean and his son also took us into the Cathedral via the door that is only open during the Holy Year, which has whetted my appetite for the Camino even more. It was a wonderful tour with wonderful Tour Leaders xx
