A live journey into Madeira´s wine harvest traditions

Join us live from Estreito de Câmara de Lobos for one of Madeira´s most colourful and deeply rooted rural celebrations, the Festa das Vindimas.

Every September, Madeira celebrates its centuries-old relationship with the grape harvest and wine. In Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, one of the island´s best-known wine-growing areas, the festival brings together local residents, visitors, folklore groups, wine traditions, music and regional gastronomy.

The official celebrations on Saturday, September 12th begin with the live grape harvest, followed by the colourful Cortejo Etnográfico and the traditional grape stomping known as Pisa e Repisa. For this free live virtual experience, Sean will take you directly into the celebrations. We plan to begin as the morning grape harvest activities are drawing to a close before making our way towards the main focus of our live stream, the 11:00 AM ethnographic parade.

During the parade, we will meet our friend Chef Duarte and join members of the Confraria Enogastronómica da Madeira, who will be participating in their ceremonial attire. The Brotherhood helps celebrate and promote Madeira´s gastronomy, wines, local products and culinary traditions, giving us a special opportunity to experience the festival alongside people closely connected to Madeira´s enogastronomic heritage.

After following the parade through Estreito, we will continue towards the traditional winepress for another of the festival´s most emblematic moments, the live grape stomping.

Join Sean live from Estreito de Câmara de Lobos during one of Madeira´s most traditional wine celebrations, the Festa das Vindimas.

We plan to begin as the morning grape harvest is coming to an end, giving us the opportunity to see some of the traditional vindima atmosphere before making our way towards the main event of our live experience, the colourful Cortejo Etnográfico.

At approximately 11:00 AM, we will join the ethnographic parade and meet our friend Chef Duarte, who will be participating with the Confraria Enogastronómica da Madeira. Members of the Brotherhood take part in their ceremonial attire, helping us discover more about Madeira´s wine, gastronomy, traditions and cultural heritage from the people who actively work to preserve and promote them.

Following the parade, we will continue to the traditional winepress for the Pisa e Repisa ao Vivo, the recreation of grape stomping that forms one of the most iconic moments of the festival.
