This year, the culinary tourism scene in Spain is brimming with pride as we at Eat&Walkabout have just won at the prestigious 2024 Global Culinary Travel Awards, organized by the World Food Travel Association (WFTA). We are honoured to be recognized as the Best Program to Promote Culinary Culture to Visitors. This award confirms that our passion for connecting travellers with authentic traditional food and wine has reached new heights. We can’t wait to continue offering unforgettable experiences!
Our mission is to create immersive tours that allow travellers to discover the best of food and wine from Spain and Portugal. Our tours are tailored so that each visitor enjoys a complete experience: from walking through vineyards to cooking with fresh ingredients from local markets.
Each of our itineraries aims for an authentic connection to the culinary and cultural roots of the regions we visit. This genuine approach has set us apart at the Global Culinary Travel Awards. But what exactly do we offer? Here are some of our most popular experiences.
We also highlight Portuguese wines, famous for their unique flavours and production methods. The most famous is undoubtedly Port wine, which you can taste on our custom half-day tour in Porto.
These wine tours not only teach you about traditional and modern production methods but also offer guided wine tastings led by local wine experts. You´ll get to hone your senses to understand the complexities that make these wines so special!
If you’re a tapas lover, we also have custom experiences for you! We organize tapas tours across Spain and Portugal, where you can taste the best dishes of each region and explore local markets filled with fresh, unique products. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to interact with local chefs and sellers, who will show you the origin of their products and share the stories behind each recipe.
On our tour The True Flavors and Natural Beauty of Madeira Islands, you’ll get to taste grilled black scabbard fish in Madeira, savouring the essence of the Atlantic. If you prefer to immerse yourself in Galician culture, go for a gastronomic short break to Santiago de Compostela: pulpo a Feira (octopus), scallops, Galician empanada… Each dish opens a door to local culture, so get ready to enjoy the best in every bite!
Immersive cooking experiences are another of our most valued products: It’s not just about eating but also learning to prepare the dishes you so enjoy. Guided by local chefs, our cooking workshops teach you to make local specialties using fresh ingredients from the market. Interested in a short break to Lisbon where you can learn to cook traditional dishes? This is your chance to enjoy a unique cooking class at the market!
These experiences go beyond cooking, as they also connect participants with family traditions and the stories behind each recipe. After a day of cooking, sitting down to enjoy what you’ve prepared creates a special connection with the culture.
Receiving the Global Culinary Travel Award is a great honour, as we have always strived to move beyond typical tourist tours to offer something different: experiences where authenticity takes centre stage. We believe that the best way to understand a culture is through its food, and this is why we work closely with local producers and chefs who share our passion for slow food.
Moreover, this award recognizes not only the quality of our tours but also our commitment to sustainability and support for local communities. We are dedicated to creating responsible experiences that help preserve traditions while supporting local economies. We believe in sustainable tourism that not only delights travellers but also benefits the regions we visit.
Want to know more about this award? A press conference featuring the three winners will be streamed live on Thursday, November 21st at 03:00PM Madrid time. Visit WFTA YouTube channel on that date, and make sure to subscribe to get notified!
Looking ahead, we are filled with excitement for our new projects. This award motivates us to keep innovating and creating new experiences that surprise our customers. We know the world of slow food gastronomic tourism keeps growing, and we want to be at the forefront, offering sustainable, unique, and unforgettable experiences.
Thanks to all our collaborators and especially our wonderful customers for making this achievement possible. We want to share this award with all of you who have accompanied us, and we hope you continue to join us on this culinary journey over the years.
